ATTENTION ON DECK: There is a petition to get the attention of Attorney General Pam Bondi concerning our problem of being able to use motorized equipment to look for gold while cleaning our streams and rivers of lead, mercury and other man-made items. Here is the link to sign the petition. https://form.jotform.com/251039014591047 We have until June 05, 2025 to get it done!!! Our Metal Detecting outing is this Sunday, April 27, at Chief Miwaleta Park. We’ll meet at the pull-out area approximately 1/2 mile off Exit 88 on I-5, on Upper Cow Creek Road (the road goes to Galesville Reservoir) at 9:00 am. The large pull-out is on the left side of the road, a short distance past the church. A Douglas County Parks Metal Detector Permit is required for this hunt. Metal Detecting is limited to the boat dock, grass area, and picnic area at Chief Miwaleta. You’ll need your Metal Detector, Headphones, Digging Tools, Finds Pouch, etc. Make sure it’s charged up, or check your batteries. Bring an extra set. Pin-pointers are optional. Try not to wear boots or shoes with metal eyelets and nothing with STEEL TOES! Knee pads are a good idea. When the ground is soft, I dig with a plastic garden trowel. There’s less of a chance of damaging the Target. Otherwise, a Metal Digging Tool with a Serrated Edge would be a plus. I also put dirt from the hole onto a hand towel. That way, I can fold it over and pour it back in. A handheld Pinpointer would be helpful while digging in the grass to minimize the damage to the sod. Metal Detector Permit Per your request, you are permitted to use your metal detector permit at the following parks Amacher – no camping areas Ben Irving – Picnic area, grass area, boat ramp Carl C Hill – Picnic area, creek Cavitt Creek - Picnic area Chief Miwaleta – Boat dock, grass area, picnic area Cleveland Rapids – Beach area Crab dock - Picnic area Long Fiber – Picnic area, grass area Iverson- Picnic area and along trails River Forks - Playground and beach Narrows – Picnic area North Myrtle – Picnic area, grass, creek Ork Rock – Grass area OC Brown – Picnic area Pickett Park – Picnic area, grass, creek Scottsburg – Playground and picnic area South Jetty - Scotts Creek-Picnic area Singleton - Picnic area and river Stanton - Playground and group camping area WCA – playground only WCB – playground and tent sites only Whistler's Bend - Playground and along the river * Please keep this in your vehicle or on your person while out metal detecting Make sure you bring some snacks, and/or lunch, and plenty of water! We hope to see you there! ****************************************************************** Greetings, Fellow Prospectors! The Show is next weekend. This is an indoor event. We need volunteers to work Saturday from 9 to 5 and Sunday from 10 to 4. We’ve added the Coin Hunt, so we’ll need more than last year. Here’s the schedule: Saturday, May 3rd, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm: 9:00 to 11:00 (Please be there ½ hour early!), 11:00 to 1:00, 1:00 to 3:00, 3:00 to 5:00. Sunday, May 4th, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm: 10:00 to 12:00 (Please be there ½ hour early!), 12:00 to 2:00, 2:00 to 4:00. As you can see, I’ve broken it up into two-hour shifts. I'll be there both days. Please RSVP and let me know what days and times you can work. You can cover more than one shift if you want. We could use a few more in the afternoon! Several members will work for the Gem Club and at our booth off and on throughout the weekend. We hope to see you there!
